BBC has a new crime drama from the mind of Stephen Butchard who is known for working on The Last Kingdom and Five Daughters.

This City Is Ours was filmed between Liverpool and Spain and is a eight-episode series about a man entrenched in organised crime.

Michael, played by James Nelson-Joyce, falls in love and his life takes an unexpected turn. He sees a future with Diana, played by Hannah Oslow, and finally feels he has something to strive for and something at risk.

The BBC drama follows their love story against the backdrop of Michael's crumbling criminal life.

For years, Michael and his friend Ronnie, played by legendary Yorkshire actor Sean Bean, have been running a successful cocaine business, importing directly from Columbia.

But when a shipment goes missing, it becomes clear that their empire is under threat. The plot thickens as Ronnie's son Jamie, played by Jack McMullen, expresses his desire to take over the family business. Both Michael and Jamie have ambitious plans to modernise the gang, leading to a power struggle, reports the Mirror.

This City Is Ours will be available to stream on BBC iPlayer from 6 am on Sunday 23 March, and episodes will begin airing weekly the same day at 9 pm.

Leading the line up for the new BBC drama is Sean Bean, a 65 year old English actor renowned for his roles in Sharpe, Time and Legends, who portrays gang leader Ronnie Phelan.

James Nelson-Joyce, a 36-year-old English actor recognised for his performances in A Thousand Blows, Little Boy Blue and The Family Pile, plays Ronnie's friend Michael Kavanagh.

Hannah Onslow, a 26 year old English actress known for her roles in This Is Going to Hurt and Belgravia: The Next Chapter, takes on the role of Michael's partner Diana Williams.
